Barclays Center partners with Earth Brands for sustainable products

Earth Brands, a manufacturer known for its eco-friendly plastic cups, containers, and cutlery, has partnered with Barclays Center, home to the National Basketball Association’s Brooklyn Nets and the Women’s National Basketball Association’s New York Liberty in the US.

As the Barclays Center’s official partner, Earth Brands will supply sustainable, plant-based, compostable products, which will be featured at concession stands and in premium hospitality spaces during all events hosted by the arena.

Founded in 2021, Earth Brands utilises polylactic acid (PLA), a biobased plastic derived from renewable resources, to craft its products.

Earth Brands co-founder Peter Frelinghuysen said: “We are very excited to partner with Barclays Center, the only large-scale sports and entertainment arena in Brooklyn, and a venue that shares our commitment to sustainability and innovation.

“By making the switch to our plant-based, compostable cups and foodware, Barclays Center is helping us lead the global transition to sustainable products and together, we are changing the game one sip at a time.”

Barclays Center showcases a wide array of events such as professional and collegiate sports, family shows, and concerts.

The arena’s commitment to sustainability extends to various measures, including energy and water conservation and recycling.

BSE Global global partnerships executive vice-president Catherine Carlson said: “Partnering with Earth Brands is another step in Barclays Center’s ongoing commitment to reducing waste and expanding our sustainability efforts.

“Our arena was the first sports and entertainment venue in the New York area to eliminate single-use plastic straws and will have diverted more than 300 tons of waste from landfills by the end of 2024.

“We are excited to partner with Earth Brands to further enhance our sustainability practices at Barclays Center, and they will be essential to help us achieve our long-term waste-diversion goals.”

BSE Global is the parent company of Barclays Center.
