Saica Group to construct new $110m corrugated facility in Indiana, US

Saica Group, a supplier of eco-friendly solutions for the production of paper and packaging, is set to establish a new corrugated facility in the US, with an investment exceeding $110m.

To be constructed in the City of Anderson, Indiana, the facility will be the company’s second corrugated production plant in the US.

Saica expects construction to commence in May this year, with the facility anticipated to be operational by the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2026.

Once completed, Saica intends to generate over 50 full-time positions within the first two years of operation, with more than 100 roles expected to be created following the plant’s ramp-up phase, a few years after it begins operations.

The company stated the new plant will span approximately 350,000ft² and is set to produce over 110 million square metres of corrugated packaging.

The new facility will feature manufacturing, converting, and production areas, as well as a warehouse and office space.

The facility’s location is connected to a railroad line, thereby reducing transport costs.

Additionally, the International Economic Development Council has allocated up to $300,000 from the Industrial Development Grant Fund to assist with infrastructure enhancements at the new location. These tax credits are, however, contingent on performance.

This latest investment follows Saica’s previous announcement to invest around $800m in the US market over the next few years.

Saica Group president and CEO Susana Alejandro said: “Saica is committed to stability and long-term growth in the US.

“This investment is the proof that we are moving forward with our plans in the American continent as we are convinced that we can provide products that will differentiate us in a crowded market.

“It reflects our deep commitment to delivering exceptional service, as we believe our knowledge and experience in the production of recycled lightweight papers and corrugated packaging will bring high-performance packaging to the US market while becoming more efficient in the use of materials.”

In November last year, Saica acquired Schumacher Packaging’s operations in Poland.
