SIG Terra reports 15% sales growth in 2024

Swiss packaging company SIG has reported a 15% rise in sales for its SIG Terra materials used in aseptic cartons for 2024.

This performance notably surpasses the company’s overall growth in carton packaging, which stands at 6%.

The increase highlights the continuing shift towards sustainable packaging as consumer and industry demand for environmentally friendly solutions remains strong.

During 2024, approximately 1.7 billion litres of food/drink were packaged using SIG’s Terra materials.

According to SIG, the Terra range incorporates the company’s most advanced eco-friendly packaging technologies, including aseptic cartons without aluminium and polymers sourced from both forest-based and recycled materials.

SIG’s expansion efforts in Europe and the successful uptake of its Terra Alu-free + Full barrier packaging in China demonstrate a growing preference for its solutions.

In Europe, SIG Terra accounts for 9.3% of all food packaged within SIG’s aseptic cartons while the global share of the segment stands at 4.1%.

SIG chief markets officer Christoph Wegener said: “The success of our SIG Terra portfolio shows that the demand for even more sustainable packaging solutions is accelerating.

“At SIG, we are driven by a vision of a regenerative future, and we are proud to support our customers in making meaningful progress in their sustainability targets.”

Earlier this month, SIG launched the first phase of its aseptic carton production facility near Ahmedabad in Gujarat, India.

The new facility will produce carton packs for the dairy and non-carbonated soft drink sectors.
