CLUBZERØ and Barclays launch new food container range at Wimbledon

Returnable packaging provider CLUBZERØ has partnered with bank Barclays for the second consecutive year at the Wimbledon tennis tournament in the UK to tackle single-use plastic waste within The Queue at the event.

The partnership between the two began after Barclays became the Official Banking Partner of The Championships in January 2023.

Since the start of this year’s event on 1 July, CLUBZERØ’s Perfect Pot has been used to serve strawberries and cream-flavoured ice cream to Barclays customers in the venue’s Game, Seat, and Match Area.

Designed in-house by CLUBZERØ, the new food container range is designed for temperature tolerance, durability, and customer satisfaction.

In addition to the Perfect Pot, CLUBZERØ plans to launch its new and improved Drop Point Boxes.

These boxes are designed to support large events by offering convenient locations for customers to return their used packaging, thereby encouraging sustainable practices.

Throughout the Wimbledon Championships, the Perfect Pots will be collected and redistributed using Zedify’s emission-free electric vehicles.

Zedify, a beneficiary of investment from Barclays’ Sustainable Impact Capital initiative, operates the UK’s largest e-cargo bike delivery network, covering nine cities.

Last year’s partnership saw the introduction of returnable cold cups for juices, marking the initial step in this sustainable journey.

CLUBZERØ’s collaboration with the bank began through the ‘Unreasonable Impact’ programme in 2021, which supports ventures addressing environmental challenges.

The company’s returnable packaging service not only addresses the high-volume demands of food and beverage consumption but also boasts a 50% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

CLUBZERØ CEO Safia Qureshi said: “Our perfect pots are the newest addition to our returnable packaging range, following months of rigorous development with our customers and partners.

“It is critical to establish standards for returnable packaging and we are thrilled to be pioneering this through our continued work at the Championships, Wimbledon in partnership with Barclays.”
