KM Packaging launches K-Peel 4G lidding film

British flexible packaging company KM Packaging has rolled out K-Peel 4G, a novel mono polyethylene terephthalate (PET) lidding film specification.

The company claims that its product aims to address the changing demands of the food packaging sector.

K-Peel 4G is characterised by a low seal initiation temperature, allowing it to seal effectively even in the presence of contaminants.

It can achieve clean peels at temperatures as low as 110°C with a dwell time of merely 0.3 seconds.

The film’s versatility with all PET trays ensures robustness, making it particularly advantageous for amorphous PET and recycled PET trays.

It excels in overcoming sealing difficulties associated with thickness and limited sealing area.

K-Peel 4G is said to be appropriate for ambient, chilled, or frozen uses and is oven-safe.

Its antifog characteristics and adherence to OM7 migration testing broaden its applicability across multiple segments of the food industry.

The material is available in two thicknesses, 21 microns and 25 microns.

The thinner option provides opportunities for minimising film thickness during production, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.

KM Packaging UK & Eire commercial director Alan Lockhart said: “We’re pleased to be able to launch this new material into the marketplace.

“The advantages of a low seal imitation temperature means K-Peel 4G has a broad range of lidding applications across the industry. The adaptability of 4G is what sets it apart from the rest.

“Whilst the impact of EPR [extended producer responsibility] and RAM [Recyclability Assessment Methodology] may question the cost impact on PET-based films, ultimately their efficiency, low weight, ovenability and ease of use prove that they still have a relevant and valuable place in the tray-sealing and lidding film arena.”

In October 2022, KM Packaging launched sustainable lidding films in Australia.
