ProAmpac and ScottsMiracle-Gro to launch sustainable insecticide packaging

ProAmpac, a flexible packaging and material science company, has collaborated with ScottsMiracle-Gro to launch a spouted pouch for Ortho Home Defense Max.

The company noted that the new packaging combines the durability of rigid containers with the efficiency of flexible packaging, providing a convenient and more sustainable option for consumers.

The design utilises ProAmpac’s chemical- and UV-resistant printing and laminating technology to ensure product integrity.

Developed in partnership with ScottsMiracle-Gro, the spouted pouch enables consumers to refill their existing dispensing system, eliminating the need to purchase a new one.

This shift from rigid containers to flexible pouches reduces plastic usage by 90%, significantly lowers overall weight, and optimises the product for e-commerce distribution.

ProAmpac product development manager Isha Labhasetwar said: “Our goal was to create a packaging solution that meets sustainability targets without compromising performance.

“By transitioning from a rigid container to a flexible pouch, this innovative design not only reduces plastic waste but also improves ease of use for consumers and aligns perfectly with e-commerce logistics.”

The pouch is said to deliver the same volume of pest control solution with a reduced environmental impact.

ScottsMiracle-Gro senior packaging engineer Keith Miller said: “The new Ortho Home Defense Max packaging represents a major step forward in sustainability and consumer convenience.

“By introducing a spouted pouch, we’ve significantly reduced our plastic packaging footprint while ensuring that our customers continue to receive the high-performance pest control solutions they trust.”

Last month, ProAmpac collaborated with ScottsMiracle-Gro to convert the garden care brand O.M. Scott & Sons’ packaging into a recyclable solution.
