UPM expands advanced label materials capacity

Finnish label material company UPM Adhesive Materials, previously known as UPM Raflatac, is set to expand its production capabilities for advanced label materials in North America.

The company has announced a significant investment in its Mills River factory located in North Carolina, US, to implement new proprietary coating technology.

This technological advancement is aimed at increasing the factory’s output of high-value advanced label materials.

The advanced label materials produced are seen as integral to various industries, including wine and spirits, industrial, pharmaceuticals, and postal services.

For over two decades, the Mills River factory has been a key production site for pressure-sensitive label materials under the Raflatac brand, according to UPM Adhesive Materials.

UPM Adhesive Materials Americas senior vice-president Brinder Gill said: “This investment in new coating technology will enable us and our customers to benefit from new capabilities in advanced label material production.

“Additionally, it will bring advanced label production closer to our customers in the Americas, enabling us to service them more effectively.”

This investment will enable the factory to continue to supply customers with paper and film label materials while expanding its offerings to include advanced label materials.

Last month, UPM Raflatac’s business area and reporting segment was rebranded as UPM Adhesive Materials. The change reflects the company’s growth in graphics solutions via strategic acquisitions.

UPM Adhesive Materials utilises the company’s expertise in adhesives, material performance, and services to deliver enhanced value to customers, states the company.
