Ahlstrom presents sustainable PSA labelling at Labelexpo Europe 2025

Fibre-based speciality materials provider Ahlstrom has presented its expanded range of sustainable release and label papers designed for pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) applications at Labelexpo Europe 2025.

The comprehensive product range features low-impact supercalendered release papers that reduce environmental impact and support circularity.

The papers utilise Ahlstrom’s proprietary Acti-V technology, which enables an efficient silicone coating and curing process, potentially lowering energy, catalyst and silicone consumption.

The Acti-V RF liners, incorporating 15% post-consumer recycled (PCR) fibres, are available in light yellow and white shades.

The Acti-V RF Natural liners have a blend of at least 50% unbleached fibres and a minimum of 15% PCR fibres, free from dyes.

The Acti-V RF Natural liners enhance circularity and reduce carbon footprint while offering a distinctive natural appearance and increased strength.

Release Liners vice-president Marco Troglia stated: “Identifying better material solutions is our ongoing commitment. Ahlstrom’s recent innovations in release and label papers have raised the standards of performance, process efficiency and environmental impact.

“Building on that, our teams in Europe, US and Brazil continue to collaborate with customers and suppliers, striving to make the pressure-sensitive industry more sustainable and resilient.”

The acquisition of the Stevens Point facility in the US has expanded Ahlstrom’s high-end PSA Label Papers offering.

This includes UniTherm label papers for thermal transfer barcode printing, OptiPrime semi-gloss papers for prime label UV inkjet and digital printing, and sustainable OptiPrime semi-gloss label options with up to 30% PCR fibre content.

Ahlstrom’s portfolio extends beyond PSA labelling applications. The company supports a wide array of industries with high-performance Glassine, supercalendered kraft (SCK), and clay-coated kraft (CCK) liners, operating multiple production plants across Europe, North America and South America.
