The product, made at the company’s Braviken Paper Mill in Sweden, is designed as a sustainable alternative for both shelf-ready and e-commerce packaging.

As per the company’s website, Holmen Elevate offers water-resistance while being recyclable.

Ideal for lightweight corrugated packaging, the product has been approved for direct food contact.

Holmen Elevate is produced using fresh fibres sourced from sustainably managed forests, with the mill operating a resource-efficient supply chain that utilises pulpwood and wood chips from Holmen’s co-located sawmill.

The kraftliner is reported to have one of the lowest carbon dioxide (CO₂) footprints in the sector, with CO₂ emissions 80% below the European average for the board and paper sector.

Holmen Board and Paper business development director Tommy Wiksand said: “This marks an important step in our strategy to grow within the containerboard market.

“Holmen Elevate meets current market demands and supports future requirements for cost-efficient solutions and low climate impact.”

Holmen Board and Paper CEO Lars Lundin said: “Holmen Elevate combines low weight with high strength properties and has industry-leading sustainability performance. It enables packaging producers to reduce material consumption and emissions without compromising on quality.”

Last year, the company introduced Invercote Touch, an uncoated paperboard aimed at premium packaging.

This multilayered baseboard, made without pigment coatings, is said to support uncoated printing characteristics and is claimed to have excellent converting properties.
