Whitworth began his management career at Metal Box before joining Oldham-based Ribble Packaging as a shift manager, later progressing to production manager.

During his time at the company, MM Packaging said Whitworth has led several initiatives, placing health and safety at the centre of operations. He also played a key role in developing the current Deeside facility and overseeing the move from the previous site.

Whitworth said: “I’m delighted to now be leading the team at Deeside, and I am confident the business will continue to grow, building on the strong foundations of the people and processes we have in place.

“At MM Packaging, we go beyond providing standard cartons, and it’s important that we remain inventive and innovative in an ever-changing packaging landscape. That’s why we will continue to invest in new equipment and maintain our strategy of developing talent.”

One of the company’s success stories has been its apprenticeship scheme. Whitworth is said to have been instrumental in its launch and remains committed to giving individuals the opportunity to forge a clear career path in the packaging industry.

Supported by the BPIF, MM Packaging offers a three-year apprenticeship in manufacturing. Last year, the business welcomed seven new apprentices to the business.

MM Group Western Europe food and specialities managing director Dieter Allitsch said: “We are delighted that Dave has taken on the role of managing director for our Deeside site.

“As operations director, he has driven positive change across the business, and his in-depth knowledge of the packaging sector will now benefit us moving forward as we continue to meet the sustainable cartonboard packaging needs of our customers.”
