Waste sortation system developer AMP Robotics has raised $91m in a Series D financing round, led by Congruent Ventures.
The round saw contributions from both existing and new investors, including Sequoia Capital, XN, Blue Earth Capital, Liberty Mutual Investments, and Tao Capital Partners.
The company intends to use the funds to expedite the rollout of its AMP ONE systems, designed to sort municipal solid waste (MSW) efficiently using AI.
AMP ONE aims to offer full-scale solutions for sorting various materials, thereby capturing more value that is typically lost to landfills or incineration. The system was successfully demonstrated in Portsmouth, Virginia, US.
AMP’s AI utilises deep learning by processing millions of material images into data for continuous self-improvement. The software’s pattern recognition abilities are used to identify recyclables and contaminants in real time.
This innovation facilitates the development of new offtake chemistries and capabilities. AMP initially launched sorting robots that could be integrated into existing recycling facilities with minimal retrofitting.
