Berlin Packaging sets net-zero emission targets for 2050

Berlin Packaging, a packaging solutions supplier, has revealed that its near-term and long-term science-based net-zero greenhouse gas emissions targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The validated targets set by Berlin Packaging include a 44.8% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, reaching a 90% reduction by 2050 from a 2022 baseline.

Additionally, the company aims to reduce Scope 3 emissions intensity by 51.6% by 2030 and by 97% by 2050, measured per $1 of revenue from the same baseline year.

Already, Berlin Packaging has achieved a reduction of more than 23% in Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2022.

The company’s commitment to achieve net-zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2050 is now aligned with the 1.5°C pathway, a distinction shared by only a select group of companies globally.

The framework provided by the SBTi ensures that corporate climate goals are substantial, feasible, and in line with the objective of the Paris Agreement to cap global temperature rise at 1.5°C.

The company has also established a comprehensive Scope 3 reduction strategy, supported over 80 brands in launching sustainable packaging solutions, and supplied nearly 13,000 tonnes of post-consumer recycled material.

Berlin Packaging Sustainability vice president Balaji Jayaseelan said: “SBTi validation is more than a milestone—it’s independent proof that our climate goals are real, measurable, and aligned with the highest global standards.

“Our customers and partners count on us to lead with ambition and deliver results that help them achieve their own sustainability goals. This recognition energises us to keep pushing boundaries and building a future where business growth and climate leadership go hand in hand.”

Earlier in June 2025, Berlin Packaging acquired Sarom Packaging and Romgallia, based in Romania.
